Once upon a time in 2008...

Once upon a time I was inspired to start a book club.
I'd been listening in on the Midday Connection book club on the radio and enjoyed their book discussions. So I grabbed their book list and a found myself a copy of the book Honey for a Woman's Heart. I wrote four letters and dropped them in the mailbox. Something about starting a literay group called for snail-mail.
It's true what they say, "start today because a year from now you'd wish you had."
May 2008
Our first book was Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. Five of us met together at the park on a Saturday morning for brunch and discussion.
July 2008
C.S. Lewis' autobiography Surprised by Joy. Busy summer schedules brought only four of us together at the park. More good food, friends, fellowships, and of course a discussion about maybe the most well read man.
From the beginning my goal was to vary the type of books we read to broaden our horizons. Lewis increased his knowledge by reading and so will we.
September 2008
The next book was our first mystery by Harry Kemelman, Monday the Rabbi Took Off as suggested in the book Honey for a Women's Heart. It didn't disappoint.
November 2008
We had a record turn out for the classic book Persuasion with 6 friends. This was my first Jane Austen and loved it! Austen, brunch, and book chats made a solid win for November.
December 2008
Our first Christmas party was a huge success with a plethroa of chocolate fonude and morsels to dip, a few hilarious games of telephone-pictonary, and our book The Rest of God by Mark Buchanan.
Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.
